City Wide Engagement

The birthplace of Hello Lamp Post, “Hello Bristol” launched in the summer of 2013 as our very first deployment, following our win of the Watershed Playable City Prize. We were tasked with transforming the city's existing infrastructure into a canvas for playful community interactions. This initiative invited residents and visitors to share their stories and engage in conversations with everyday street objects such as benches, bus stops and bins.

Project Outcomes:

  • Sparked the beginning of Hello Lamp Post’s journey, inspiring us to explore opportunities for making more places interactive
  • Revealed a demand for interactive technology capable of positively impacting local authorities and their communities
  • Fostered meaningful connections between people and their physical environment
  • Received an overwhelmingly positive response from both Bristol’s residents and visitors

Hello EA Outcomes:

“When we commissioned Hello Lamp Post, no one realised the project would create a kind of city analytics platform - able to gauge the mood of a city, to probe particular issues, to understand a bit about mobility and movement."
