Waste management provides an economic challenge for every town and city in the US. And around the world, for that matter. At the end of the last decade, 82.4% of the US population lived in urban areas. That figure is expected to rise to an estimated 90% by 2050. This means that unless the government can tackle waste management now, the challenges will continue to place growing pressure on communities and the places they live.
The way that people communicate and engage with the public sector has never been more collaborative. Digital community engagement is key to widening participation and is allowing communities to be at the forefront of public decision-making. Communities around the world are ready to collaborate with their councils. It’s time for more public sector organisations to join their counterparts who have already adopted these new technologies.
As we near the end of another year (that seems to have gone by in a flash), we take a look at 2021 - spotlighting some of our achievements, whilst sharing our plans for 2022 and some trends we expect to see in the new year.

The Welcome Back Fund has been introduced to provide councils across England with a share of £56 million from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) to encourage footfall back to the high street and show support to shops and hospitality businesses, who need the support of consumers now more than ever.

The planning process typically has two functions; managing physical development and planning ahead for future growth and development. While these functions appear to focus solely on physical development, they are also concerned with economic, environmental and social needs.
The importance of Smart Governance has been recognised as a fundamental necessity of smart cities as it creates a strong link between a government and its citizens. In the case of Hello Lamp Post we focus on how public services are delivered and better inform how governing bodies make their decisions based on the data derived from our playful and innovative solutions.

This week we're announcing the first wave of companies joining our newly formed partnership programme. We'll be working closely with five businesses who’s work aligns with our vision of creating more inclusive, democratic, human led cities.

Civic technology, or civic tech, enhances the relationship between the people and government and is the term given to any form of innovative technology used in the public sphere to impact society positively.
